Succeed at Applications

Hard to believe I know, but our students’ job applications aren’t always as good as they should be. Spelling mistakes, poor grammar, too short, too long, not answering the question. That’s the feedback we get at the Careers Service from many leading graduate recruiters.  So we asked them to explain how it should be done. This week’s Succeed at Applications sessions are delivered by some big name graduate employers and will focus specifically on how to complete an application form for their own schemes.

Rolls Royce, Network Rail, PwC, Unilever, Teach First, Bechtel – details here.

So if you’re a finalist applying for any of these graduate schemes, or an intermediate year applying for an internship or placement with any of these firms, why would you miss out on hearing top tips from the horse’s mouth?

If you’re not sure about applying to these firms, but will be applying for something, why not go along anyway and pick up some useful hints?

All students and graduates can also get help from the Careers Service with any applications – ring 0114 2220910 for a 20-minute appointment.

Students from backgrounds “traditionally under-represented in higher education” – that could be mature students, anyone who’s the first generation in their family to go to university, students from schools or neighbourhoods with low rates of progression to university, students on full living cost grants – can get additional individual help from Pete or Rachel, the Transitions Team at the Careers Service. Just email us on transitions@sheffield.ac.uk to arrange a time.
