Either way, it’s a good
time to be checking that, after your three years hard study, your CV won’t let
you down in the graduate job market.
For
mature students, writing a CV can be a bit more complicated. You may have a lot
of pre-university work experience to summarise; you may be concerned that your
previous experience is not relevant to your graduate career plans (don’t worry,
it is!) or that employers may be put off by your later start at university
(again don’t worry, this can definitely be a positive).
If
you’re a UK undergraduate and were aged 21+ when you started university, help
is at hand. We’re running a series of one-hour CV mini-workshops in weeks 1 and
3. They are intended for finalists in week 1, and first & intermediate
years in week 3, and targeted at particular faculties for each session – but if
you can’t attend the one for your faculty / year, feel free to come to another
one instead. Details of the sessions are on the sign-up form.
If
you’re a UK undergraduate and were aged under 21 when you started university,
but you come from an under-represented background (e.g. first generation in
your family to go to university, or from a school or neighbourhood with a low
rate of progression to university), we’re running one-hour CV mini-workshops
for you as well. These are in week 2 (for finalists) and in week 3 for first
& intermediate, and targeted at particular faculties for each session – but
if you can’t attend the one for your faculty / year, feel free to come to
another one instead. Details of the sessions are on the sign-up form.
For all
students, our website gives lots a lot of help on CVs, there’s a lunchtime talk in week 2, and one-to-one CV appointments available every weekday.
NB If
you followed the link from What’s On Weekly, you may have been misdirected to a page about academic
careers for research students. The CV workshops referred to in the headline in
WoW and in the blog post above are intended for UK mature students and other UK undergraduates from under-represented backgrounds; if
this is you, please sign up for a workshop.
